813area.com founder, Scott Conlon, will be appearing at an IT Colloquium hosted by USF Polytechnic on Monday, April 23. The IT Colloquium is part of a series at the USF Polytechnic campus in Lakeland that plays host to a variety of guest speakers and professionals working in the information technology industry. Conlon, who graduated with a B.S. in information technology from USF and attended the Polytechnic campus from 2005 to 2007, will talk about the foundation and growth of his online Tampa city guide, 813area.com, and the pivotal roles that search engine optimization (SEO), social media, and online marketing have played in the growth of the website since its debut in 2006. The IT Colloquium at USF Polytechnic kicks off at 3 p.m. with a talk from Travis Brown, Executive Director of the Office of Experiential & Applied Learning and Blue Sky Incubation Program at USF Polytechnic.  Among other topics, Brown will discuss Blue Sky, the technology business incubation program at USF Polytechnic which focuses on nurturing innovative entrepreneurial businesses. Conlon will begin his discussion directly after from 4 to 6 p.m. The IT Colloquium will take place in room LTB 1104 at the USF Polytechnic campus in Lakeland. This event is free and open to the public.
