Officials from the International Indian Film Academy came to Tampa last week with some pretty big news:  Tampa has been chosen to be the host city for the 2014 IIFA Awards, often referred to as the Bollywood version of the Oscars, from June 10 through 16, 2014.

In terms of size, Tampa officials expect to bring in a level of security and manpower that's equal to somewhere "between the Super Bowl and the RNC" according to a statement given by president of the Visit Tampa Bay tourism bureau Santiago Corrada to the Tampa Bay Times.

The actual awards ceremony itself will likely take place at the Tampa Bay Times Forum where hundreds of Bollywood actors, directors, and industry figures will walk the IIFA Awards' signature green carpet, a signature feature of the Bollywood awards ceremony since its inception back in 2000.

The IIFA awards began in London before traveling to different host cities each year including Johannesburg, Dubai, Singapore, Amsterdam, and now, Tampa.

Other venues that will possibly host events leading up to the 2014 IIFA awards weekend include Raymond James Stadium for a cricket match, the Tampa Convention Center for a business forum, and the University of South Florida Sun Dome or the Florida State Fairgrounds for an "IIFA Rocks" concert - 32 events in all - the Times reports.

Event organizers expect around 30,000 people to descend upon Tampa for the week and weekend leading up to the 2014 IIFA Awards.

The Indian film industry has become a global entertainment powerhouse.  In total, it sell 4 billion plus movie tickets annually. In comparison, Hollywood sells about 1.2 billion in the U.S.

We'll keep you posted as more news arises.
