The Museum of Science and Industry in North Tampa premiered its newest permanent exhibit "Mission: Moonbase" with a soft opening for the public today.

Presented by MOSI and partially funded by NASA, "Mission: Moonbase" is an interactive exhibit which takes MOSI guests on a virtual trip to the moon's surface where they will become part of a simulated operation working as a lunar colony in the year 2070.

With over three years of development at the hand of NASA and MOSI officials, the 2,500-square-foot "Mission: Moonbase" was finally completed with the help of a $1.2 million grant from NASA.  In total, the new exhibit boasts a price tag of $2 million.

Anyone, from ages two to 92, can participate in "Mission: Moonbase" which also teaches visitors about the prospective reality of living on the moon with activities where guests can monitor their resources such as food, water, air quality, and more.

"Mission: Moonbase" will premier with an official grand opening this Saturday, December 15 at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony and more.  For more information on "Mission: Moonbase" or the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, head over to mosi.org.
