September is National Drug and Alcohol Recovery Month.  To commemorate substance abuse recovery, DACCO (Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office) is hosting a FREE event at the David A. Straz Center on September 25.

The event, titled Opening Doors to a Drug Free Community, will be an all-day celebration of recovery and prevention awareness in the Tampa community.  Beginning at 11:30 a.m., Opening Doors to a Drug Free Community will feature a screening of the award-winning documentary, The Secret World of Recovery, as well as a prevention expo, silent auction, art exhibit featuring renowned artists from around the area, and a live music performance by Tampa's own Thrown Alive.

The Secret World of Recovery is a ground breaking film on substance abuse and recovery that broke all records at the Sarasota Film Festival.  Screening at 1:15 p.m. in the Straz Center, the film highlights the changes in treatment and attitudes in recovery with stories of substance abuse and redemption across the country.  The film's writing and directorial team, mother and daughter, Leslie and Lindsay Glass will be at Opening Doors to a Drug Free Community to answer questions after the film.

Thrown Alive will begin their performance at 3 p.m. and all other activities and exhibits at Opening Doors to a Drug Free Community will be continuously open throughout the day.  If you or someone you know is on the road to recovery from substance abuse, the Opening Doors to a Drug Free Community event will certainly inspire and support one's lifelong journey of recovery.  Help out a great organization and head out to show your support on September 25.
