The Red Bull Wake Open is going down this Friday and Saturday outside the Tampa Convention Center in Downtown Tampa. While many will come to be wowed by high flying stunts and crazy skills at the hands of professional wakeboarders from around the world zooming across the Hillsborough River, there’s a great art exhibit inside the Convention Center you won’t want to miss.
It’s the Red Bull Wake Art Project and it features the work of local artists from around the Florida area, all of whom were asked utilize a wakeboard as their canvas. The unifying theme of each creation is the question, “What gives you wings?”
Presented by Red Bull and Tampa art collective Kick Start My Art, the Wake Art Project features the unique works of 17 different Florida artists, each with a signature style that, together, makes for an awesome collection of art-inspired wakeboards.
Once the Wake Open reaches its conclusion, the top three wakeboards will be selected by a special panel of judges and awarded to the top three wakeboarders in this international wakeboarding competition.
There will also be a people’s choice winner where you can text a code on display next to your favorite wakeboard to an official Red Bull number to cast your vote.
The Wake Art Project is located inside the Tampa Convention Center and will stay open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 13 and 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14th.
