The Cuban sandwich is one of many great things that Ybor City is known for.  As immigrants poured into what is now this massive hub of culture and entertainment in Tampa, the Cuban sandwich rose to fame as a quick, easy, and cheap lunch for many workers to eat on the job.

Today, the Cuban sandwich is a massively popular item in Tampa and, to celebrate, the Cuban Club in Ybor is hosting Taste of the Cuban Sandwich, a celebration dedicated to this delicious treat between two buns on Saturday, August 18.

Guests are encouraged to come out to this family-friendly celebration where they can have a part in helping Tampa beat out Miami for crafting the biggest Cuban sandwich in the world and enjoy a ton of other great, free activities.

Some of the best Cuban restaurants in Tampa will be on hand including the winners of the Annual Cuban Sandwich Festival Contest.  Guests can browse over twenty restaurants, all of which will be selling sample-sized Cuban sandwiches throughout the event.  Some of these restaurants include Michelle Faedo's On The Go, The Stone Soup Cafe, and Gaspar's Grotto.

In addition to all the great food that will be on hand at Taste of the Cuban Sandwich, there will also be live, cultural music and dance performances, a kids zone, an antique car show, cigar area, old-fashioned barber, and a domino tournament.

Admission to Taste of the Cuban Sandwich is free, but officials encourage guests to visit the community help booth which will be collection donations for Emberlynn Padilla, an 8-month old baby from the community suffering from a fatal, but treatable congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
