As we venture farther and farther into the digital age, more places than ever are beginning to offer free WiFi access for the young, tech-savvy, and internet-hungry on the go.  Today, Downtown Tampa is a perfect example of the aforementioned because the City of Tampa has just announced it will begin expanding WiFi access throughout the area, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

In the next four to eight weeks, the city will expand its free WiFi access to outdoor parks, city buildings, and recreation areas in Downtown Tampa with an effort to attract a bigger demographic of young, tech-savvy, and more to these areas.

The effort will start with the city offering free WiFi at more than six of their buildings including the municipal office building, city council chambers, police department lobbies, and the construction services center.  This new, expanded WiFi access will cost the city $9,500 for equipment and installation with a $5,000 annual fee for internet and software maintenance, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

For the next phase, the City of Tampa will work with large, telecommunications providers like Bright House Networks and Verizon to provide WiFi hot spots at Downtown Tampa public spaces including the Downtown Tampa Riverwalk, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, and Lykes Gaslight Square Park, according to the Times.

As always, we'll keep you posted as more news arises regarding WiFi in Downtown Tampa.
