It’s not every day our great city gets a visit from a notable celebrity figure, let alone the First Lady of the United States. Come Thursday, January 26, Michelle Obama and company will be rolling into Tampa as a part of her healthy eating initiatives.
First Lady Obama will appear with the president of Goya Foods, Bob Unanue at National Supermarket (intersection of Waters and Armenia Avenues) in North Tampa on Thursday morning. At the time of publishing this, we’re still awaiting the exact time of Obama’s arrival, though.
Obama and Unanue will be promoting a nationwide push toward better health and wellness for people of all ages. They’ll also discuss and promote Mi Plato (my plate), an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mi Plato is focused on helping American families make better meal choices when it comes to dining together.
The First Lady will also be making Thursday appearances in Sarasota and Palm Beach for democratic fundraisers in each of those cities. Her visit will come right off the heels of the Republican Presidential Primary Debate at the University of South Florida on the evening of Monday, January 23.
Florida and Tampa are both political hotbeds when it comes to the upcoming presidential election. Tampa will play host to the Republican National Convention in August and Florida has always been a highly contested state when it comes to presidential votes. Obama’s appearance on Thursday will likely be the first of a handful coming up later in the year.
We’ll keep you posted as more details develop about Michelle Obama’s stop in Tampa on Thursday, January 26.
