Tampa's  and ever-growing Westshore District may soon be granted a handful of neighborhood amenities including wider sidewalks, bike lanes, and more aimed at attracting both residents and visitors alike, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Westshore Alliance business group recently finished its first master plan for the community with the hopes of making this burgeoning district more liveable, attractive, and mass transit-friendly than ever.

The master plan for Westshore calls for a number of neighborhood amenities to make for, what the alliance sees as, a more attractive community for real estate in Tampa and more.  These include landscaped medians, shaded sidewalks, screens to hide parking lots and shared bus and bicycle lanes along West Shore Boulevard, between International Plaza and Kennedy Boulevard, the Times reports.

It also includes proposals for pedestrian bridges which would connect restaurants and offices along Boy Scout Boulevard a new public park and International Plaza, one of the district's two major shopping malls.

The plan would improve pedestrian access in the district without taking away vehicle lanes or adding road congestion, Westshore Alliance executive director Ron Rotella said to the Times.

$10 million to $15 million in upgrades to West Shore Boulevard could start in a year and a half.   No schedule has been set yet and the plan still needs approval from the City of Tampa, but the prospect is hopeful.

The city recently approved an $80,000 engineering feasibility study regarding moving utilities and obtaining the "right of way" needed for the West Shore plan, according to the Times.
