A brilliant 5-star Asian Fusion restaurant, hidden in a nondescript strip mall outside downtown Dunedin, is blowing the competition out of the water one dish at a time!  Anyone with an appreciation for fine sushi and Asian specialties should know about Blue Sake, where it is, how to get there and why it's #RoadTripWorthy if you do not live nearby. Consistent 5-star Yelp reviews point the way to this sweet West Coast eatery, Yelpers know, it's time you did too!  Blue Sake at 1425 Main Street, Dunedin is exceptional on every level.

Brilliant 5 Star Asian Fusion Hidden in Dunedin

Other than a review from a woman with the flu who mistook her illness for food poisoning (she recanted her review after visiting a Dr.), you find 5-star reviews like Melissa's, "There are very few times I give 5 stars... But this place deserves it!! I've had sushi in many different cities...I have had amazing sushi,  I am picky....This place had the best Sushi I've had so far!"

I do not miss an opportunity to dine at Blue Sake, I live in South Tampa.  Heading West across Courtney Campbell Causeway, North up McMullen Booth Road then West again on US 580, the closer I get to Blue Sake the more excited my taste buds become! On average it takes me a little over an hour each time I go but I do not mind!  The experts at Blue Sake make my trip worth it every time.  It's easy to miss them even if you know they are there. When I cross Keene Rd. I know I am close, past Friendly Lane on the right it's tucked away in the strip center just past the Auto Parts store with a Subway.

With cafe seating outside, booth and table seating inside, it's spacious.  The staff is always welcoming and friendly, the dedicated owner Angie is usually found in the kitchen overseeing and preparing Blue Sake's 5-star impossibly-delicious dishes. This trip Angie and her masterful crew delighted us with several recommendations. Starting with sushi, my friends and I enjoyed a roll not on the menu at the time. Called the Fairy Roll it's cucumber and avocado in seaweed wrap topped with Tuna, Salmon, Escolar, Krab, Yellowtail and the hidden gem of sushi, Masago. We also enjoyed the Tempura JB Roll, a crispy, deep fried roll topped with eel sauce, spicy mayo and smelt roe, the Rainbow Roll, essentially a California Roll topped with Salmon, Tuna and Whitefish, a Firecracker Roll, Escolar, Salmon, Krab, cream cheese and asparagus wrapped in wonton skin, fried and topped with wasabi mayo and roe. a Checker Roll, Spicy Tuna, asparagus, and avocado topped with Tuna, Yellowtail, spicy mayo and Masago, and a Volcano Roll topped with baked seafood, eel sauce, scallion, and smelt roe.

Fairy RollI ordered the Lemongrass Chicken Salad with Vietnamese Dressing, while friends ordered Chicken Rama Long Song, Shrimp and Chicken Pad Thai and Fried Red Snapper with Cashew Nut. We shared each dish at the table.  I mean how could you sit and keep all this foodie goodness to yourself!  My salad was a meal in itself, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, carrot, red onion, topped with lemongrass and served with a Vietnamese dressing like nothing I'd ever had before, light and fragrant it was the perfect accompaniment.

Chicken Lemongrass Salad with Vietnamese DressingVery impressed by the Rama Long Song, stir-fried broccoli, carrot and cabbage topped with peanut sauce and sprinkled with crushed peanuts I think I took more than my fair share of this one! We chose chicken, you choose your protein for this one.

Chicken Rama Long Song

Everyone loved the Pad Thai, a hefty portion it was not swimming in Pad Thai sauce yet had enough that the noodles were not dry or sticky.  You can choose Chicken, Pork, Tofu, Vegetable, Shrimp, Squid, Fish, Duck or Scallops as your protein at Blue Sake! We asked to combine Shrimp and Chicken with the traditional rice noodles sauteed with bean sprouts, egg, and scallion topped with ground peanuts and a lime wedge.

The deep fried fillet of snapper below on top of its veggie bed with cashews in a sweet herbed sauce was spectacular!

The menu at Blue Sake is something you would expect to see in a 5-star restaurant in New York City, not Dunedin!  With years of experience and an indomitable drive, Angie's passion can be tasted in her food.  On future visits I look forward to trying her flaming dishes, flambeed tableside I am anxious to try her Seafood Flambe'  of grilled jumbo shrimp over sauteed mussels, squid, and scallops with snow peas, tomato, baby corn, carrots, mushrooms, celery, bell peppers, onions and basil in roasted chili sauce flamed with whiskey.  Or her Volcano Jumbo Shrimp, grilled jumbo shrimp topped with sweet chili sauce, snow peas, carrots, baby corn, cabbage and bell peppers also flambeed with whiskey.

A Dunedin transplant to Tampa, I long to live in Dunedin again for two reasons, old friends of course and then there is Blue Sake!  Check out the FULL MENU, prices are extremely reasonable, and the menu is beyond imaginative. The amount of creativity on this menu matches nothing I've seen in Asian cuisine in Tampa Bay.
