Popular and eclectic South Tampa restaurant Datz has amassed a profound popularity and increasingly solid reputation in The Tampa area dining landscape since opening just five years ago.

Ushered by this success, Datz has decided to buy the bakery next door to their original location at 2616 S. Macdill Ave. for a soon-to-be opened bakery and coffee house called Datz Dough, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Datz bought the property which used to house Kalupa's Bakery and Deli before the business was in trouble.  Datz owners Suzanne and Roger Perry decided to save the declining enterprise by purchasing the business and equipment, offering the original staff continued employment, and keeping on Mike Kalupa, the former owner, as a consultant.

Datz has become a wildly popular dining destination in Tampa since opening back in 2009 and touts the numbers to prove it.  According to Datz owner Roger Perry, they did $6 million in sales last year alone.

This led to the Datz kitchen to spend up to $15,000 a month on bread, $5,000 on cakes, and consume around 1,000 hamburger buns a week.  Now, all that will be transferred over to Datz Dough which will be run by former Refinery pastry chef Alex Flannery.

According to the Times, Datz Dough will specialize in grab-and-go pastries and other breakfast items in the morning, light fare like salads and sandwiches for lunch, and gourmet deserts and wines for the evening.

Datz Dough is now open at at 2616 S. Macdill Ave.  Give them a try, then let us know what you think with your own rating and review on the Datz Dough 813area business listing.
