Let's talk about the tacos! Catrinas makes their tacos the traditional, authentic Mexican way. This means the tacos are soft; the tortillas are corn and small by American standards; it's all about the protein; there is never lettuce, tomato or shredded cheddar cheese; and there are always unlimited slices of fresh lime.
Catrinas offers a substantial selection of $2 tacos including standard proteins such as Pollo (chicken), Carne Asada (grilled steak), Carnitas and Mushrooms and more traditional, unusual items including Lengua (tongue), Cochnita Pibil (pit-style pork), Nopales (cactus), and Chorizo.
If you're a fan of pork, you'll love the Cochinita Pibil Tacos. A speciality from the Yucatan Peninsula, the pork is cooked for 24 hours and then served on a warm, homemade tortilla with red onion, cilantro, a thick slice of Haas avocado, homemade salsa, and a fresh slice of lime. Perfection for only $2 each!
I also love the Carne Asada tacos. Tender slices of fresh grilled steak, topped with pico de gallo and red salsa. So simple and delicious!
I'm looking forward to trying the Nopales Tacos, corn tortillas filled with grilled cactus, tomatoes, onions and topped with fresh cheese, cilantro and salsa as well as the Al Pastor Tacos, corn tortillas filled with grilled pork marinated in a special chile sauce with cilantro, onions and green salsa but I think I'll leave the Lengua Tacos, corn tortillas filled with cow tongue, cilantro, onions and red salsa to someone with a little more adventurous palate!
Fancy a little surf over turf? No problem! Catrinas has an expansive selection of seafood based tacos, sourced directly from local commercial fishermen and hand cut it on site. Choose from Lobster, Baja Fish, Governor Shrimp and my favorite, Shrimp Tacos! The Shrimp Tacos are piled high with jumbo shrimp, grilled just right and topped with melted cheese, onions, tomatoes and red salsa. Perfect for this hungry Floridian! Please note, seafood tacos, except the Shrimp Taco, are an additional cost.
The Baja Fish Taco with a delicious crunchy, sizzling batter of fried fish, shredded cabbage and lime sprinkled with freshly chopped herbs and finished with a squirt of think house chef's cream is also a fantastic choice!
