Good news if you're shopping in Tampa, or anywhere in Florida, this weekend.  Florida's tax-free holiday is set to kick off on Friday, August 2 and last until midnight on Sunday, August 2.

This means you can enjoy tax-free purchases on a variety of back-to-school-related items including school supplies, clothing, and newly-added items like tablets and personal computers at retailers throughout the state this weekend.

You don't have to be a student to take advantage of no tax on these select items, either.  Just show up and the discount will be applied once you're purchasing your items.

When it comes to what qualifies as clothing, school supplies, and computers, things might get a little confusing, so we've provided what the state of Florida counts for each category below.

According to the Florida Department of Revenue, "'Clothing' means any article of wearing apparel, including all footwear (except skis, swim fins, roller blades, and skates), intended to be worn on or about the human body. However, “clothing” does not include watches, watch bands, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs, or sporting equipment."  These select items will have no taxes applied if they're purchased for $75 or less.

"'School supplies' means pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks, notebook filler paper, legal pads, binders, lunch boxes, construction paper, markers, folders, poster board, composition books, poster paper, scissors, cellophane tape, glue, paste, rulers, computer disks, protractors, compasses, and calculators," the Department of Revenue states, adding that these qualifying items will be tax-free if purchased for $15 or less over the weekend.

"Personal computers" do not include cell phones, video game consoles, digital media receivers, or devices that are not primarily designed to process data.  It does include any electronic book reader, laptop, desktop, handheld, tablet, or tower computer.  PCs must be purchased for $750 or less to qualify for tax-exempt status.
