According to several sports media outlets including the Tampa Tribune and CBSSports.com, former USF football head coach Skip Holtz is in the final stages of inking a new head coaching deal with the Lousiana Tech University football program.

Holtz is expected to make the announcement himself this afternoon after just under two weeks of unemployment following his firing from the head coaching position at USF back on December 2nd.

The USF athletics department also wasted no time after Holtz' departure, hiring former Western Kentucky head coach Willie Taggart to replace Holtz earlier this week.

Holtz was fired from his head coach position at USF earlier this month after the team finished with a record of 3-9, the worst season yet in the program's 16-year history.  Holtz' overall record was 16-21 over three seasons with the USF Bulls football program.

This followed USF athletic director Doug Woolard's earlier decision to extend Holtz's head coaching contract through 2017 with a $2 million per year contract.  Now that Holtz is fired, USF will be forced to pay him a $2.5 million buyout divided into $500,000 yearly installments over the next five years.

The position at Louisiana Tech will be Skip Holtz's fourth head coaching job following stints at Connecticut, East Carolina, and the University of South Florida.
