WHAT: Florida’s Children First 2015 Tampa Reception
WHEN: Tuesday June 16th, 2015 / 5:30PM to 7:30PM

WHO: Florida’s Children First will honor child advocates in the Tampa Bay Area at its annual fundraising and awards event. Grayson Kamm, news reporter from Channel 10 will be Master of Ceremonies. Community and business leaders, and all other persons concerned about the future of Florida’s children, especially abused, abandoned and neglected children and youth, will be in attendance.
HONORING:
Pro Bono Counsel of the Year – Elizabeth L Hapner
Elizabeth Hapner has represented poor children in Hillsborough County for over 25 years. Increasing her commitment of time each year, she has now logged over two thousand pro bono hours since 1990. Ms. Hapner began helping children as a pro bono attorney for the Guardian ad Litem Program, then became an Attorney Ad Litem in the Delinquency Division for many years, where she represented children who arrived at court for their hearings without a parent or guardian. Ms. Hapner has a distinguished record of Florida Bar committee work that has contributed to rule and law changes positively impacting the lives of Florida Children. In 2014, she was the recipient of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit’s Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Lawyer Award, and in 2015 she received the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.
Foster & Adoptive Family – The Markowski Family
Katina began as a volunteer with The Junior League of Tampa and through her volunteer work she saw first-hand the many children in foster care without forever families. She, her husband, Matt, and daughter, Penny, soon opened up their hearts and home to a teenage boy living in foster care. “Q” quickly became family, and since Q’s adoption last year, the family has continued to make a difference by advocating for other children in foster care through continued volunteer work
