Description

With a wide range of talents, Emmy Award winner and Grammy Award nominee David Cross has emerged as a hilarious performer on stage and screens both big and small.

Event Details

His smart and fearless comedy style is marked by a simultaneous honesty and cynicism that kind of goes beyond satire to somewhere else. His solo work tends to focus on topics of religion, politics and a total refusal to skirt around any issue.

In film, Cross most recently starred as Cain, opposite Paul Rudd’s Abel, in Harold Ramis' Year One, which was released by Sony. He will next reprise his role as Tobias Fünke in the silver screen adaptation of the Emmy Award winning Fox hit Arrested Development, a role he is perhaps most recognized for. Other film credits include Men in Black (both 1 & 2), Waiting For Guffman, Ghost World, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, School for Scoundrels, Curious George, I'm Not There, and Alvin & The Chipmunks.

On Television, Cross most recently wrote, produced and starred in the Comedy Central animated series Freak Show, which was co-created by Cross and Jon Benjamin. He also recently shot Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, a pilot for Channel 4 in London, which he created, wrote, and stars in.

Cross honed his comedy writing chops as one of the writers on The Ben Stiller Show, for which he and the writing team share a posthumous Emmy (it was given after the show was canceled). Other Emmy nominations soon followed when Cross created (along with Bob Odenkirk) the groundbreaking HBO show, Mr. Show with Bob & David. The show ran on the cable network for four years.

Characterized by his small frame, bald head and thick, dark glasses, the Emmy®-winner is perhaps best-known for the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show and for his role as Tobias Fünke in the sitcom Arrested Development. Though often, it is his memorable bit parts (Donnie, the guy who repeatedly says “Chicken Pot Pie” on NBC’s Just Shoot Me) that tend to stick in the imagination of the larger public.

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, Jan. 8, and are available online beginning at 10am, and by phone and in person at the Straz Center Ticket Sales Office beginning at 12pm.
