No holiday season would be complete without decorations, family, sweets, or seeing a Nutcracker performance. Tampa Ballet Theatre announces its 6th annual performance of The Nutcracker for Saturday, December 6th at 7:00pm and Sunday, December 7th at 3:00pm at the James B. White Performing Arts Center in Clearwater. Tickets are now on pre-performance sale for $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for children and college students. Pre-performance tickets can be purchased online at tampaballettheatre.org, at the Tampa Bay Ballet studio, or by phone at (813) 814-0587. Tickets will be sold at the theatre for $2 more per each ticket.
The Nutcracker by Tampa Ballet Theatre is starring Kaitlyn McGowan as Clara, Jack Latham/Charles Java as The Nutcracker Prince, Amanda Ciotuszynski as Sugar Plum Fairy, and Tyler Anderson as Cavalier.
“The Nutcracker Ballet is one of my favorite classical ballets,” states Kaitlyn McGowan, 12 year old Tampa Bay Ballet student and student at Espiritu Santo Catholic School, “I am thrilled to be able to dance as Clara this year!”
The classical ballet of The Nutcracker is being re-staged by Artistic Director, Lindsay Clark. The story follows a young Clara, who receives her nutcracker prince from magician and toymaker, Drosselmeyer. Clara then falls asleep on the couch and dreams of the terrifying Rat Queen, her nutcracker then comes to life and protects Clara from the rats. Clara is then swept away with the Nutcracker and arrives in the Land of the Sweets, where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. They celebrate with gifts and dancing and then the young Clara must go home and all of the sweets and the Sugar Plum Fairy say goodbye.
“As a mother I know how important tradition is,” states Artistic Director of Tampa Ballet Theatre, Lindsay Clark, “it gives you something to look forward to every year and The Nutcracker is one of those traditions. I believe in preserving the classical ballet and spreading the tradition of ballet to Tampa Bay.”
