WHO: Florida’s Children First will honor child advocates in Sarasota at its annual fundraising and awards event. Community and business leaders and all other persons concerned about the future of Florida’s children, especially abused, abandoned and neglected children and youth, will be in attendance.
HONORING:
Child Advocate of the Year – Susan Stockham
Susan Stockham is nationally recognized but local, Sarasota attorney, who is admired for her work in adoptions. She is an outstanding, ethical and effective adoption attorney.
Susan has been practicing law in Florida since 1982. She is the founder of, and Legal Advisor to “A Bond of Love (ABL),” a nonprofit, licensed adoption agency based in Sarasota. Founded in 1992, A Bond of Love provides legal and social services to birth mothers and adoptive parents.
Susan is also in private practice and in her 30 plus years of practice as a Family Law attorney, she has assisted over 2,000 couples in domestic, independent and agency adoptions, and international adoptions. She is a Florida Bar Board Certified Adoption Law Attorney, and has also been a member of the prestigious American Academy of Adoption Attorneys since 1990, as well as a member of the Assisted Reproductive Law Attorneys Association. Susan has adopted two adult males who came from foster care, Derrick and Angel (not formerly related).
Youth Advocate of the Year–Tabatha Barnes
Tabatha is a 16-year-old Sarasota, Florida native. She has two sisters and one brother. She is junior at Sarasota High School and is an active member of the ROTC program and Chorus team. Even though, Tabatha was reunified with her mother, she remains an active member of Florida Youth Shine and the Manasota Chapter Teen Advisory Council.
