Travel Channel's Food Paradise Spotlights Gaspar's Grotto During July 17 Episode Saluting Foods Featuring Pork

Event Details

Gaspar’s Grotto once again steps into the national spotlight when the Travel Channel program “Food Paradise” turns its cameras on dishes featuring pork. The upcoming “Hog Heaven” themed segment includes a Cuban sandwich that is a favorite menu item served at the popular Ybor City restaurant and bar.

The segment airs at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, on the Travel Channel. Gaspar’s Grotto will host a watch party that is open to the public so that fans can watch the broadcast for free on a big screen while enjoying free samples of the featured Cuban sandwich and beer (while supplies last).

“Since fantastic food can be important to many travelers (more) than museums, hotels or souvenirs, we've compiled all the must-see food spots across the country that offer unique dining experiences,” according to the show’s web site. “We're serving up hefty plates of the country's tastiest, most mouth-watering and decadent meals. We're talking lip-smacking pizza, tasty deli entrees, boatloads of bacon, fresh seafood, finger-licking deep fried dishes ... and that's only the beginning! So, bring your appetite and your stretchy pants as we dive into a healthy portion of Food Paradise!”

“The staff had a ball filming this show. We are all very proud of what our core principles of quality, fun and guest experience, first and foremost, have produced at Gaspar’s Grotto and it’s a treat for us to show off in front of the nation again. We are actually getting used to this attention,” said Gaspar’s Grotto proprietor Eric Schiller who, with his wife Shere, have welcomed guests from all over the world to Gaspar’s Grotto.

“I’d rather run one joint right than have a dozen average ones, that’s for sure,” he added.

Last May, hosts of the series, “What the Fung?!” that airs on A&E Network’s FYI channel, dropped by Gaspar’s to dine on conch fritters served with tequila chili jam. Comedians and brothers Andrew and David Fung visited Tampa as part of their nationwide search for the best local spots to eat.
