Tampa-based digital media and technology start-up, MyArea Network, has added Tampa Bay media professional, Debbie Torres, to their board and executive team as Vice President of Sales.

President and founder of MyArea Network, Scott Conlon said, “Debbie brings a great level of media and marketing experience to our growing technology firm and we are thrilled to have her join our executive leadership.”

After a 20 plus career in traditional media sales and management, Debbie Torres took notice of the changes in media consumption. She explained, "I spent my career working in radio, broadcast TV, and cable advertising sales and saw a dramatic shift in how online viewing for entertainment and information was impacting traditional media viewership. When I met with Scott, I immediately believed in his vision. He has built an incredible technology platform and inspired business model that helps businesses connect with local residents and visitors. His acumen to grow the company in multiple markets, was an exciting opportunity that fit well with my past experience. I knew I had found my next great adventure and was ready to join the hectic and chaotic world of a digital media tech startup.”

Conlon added, “Debbie’s experience is not only an asset to our team but also to our clients.” He continued, “We are one of the few digital media companies that focus on helping local businesses. Debbie’s breadth of media and marketing experience has helped us grow our sales and expand our full suite of marketing services, including traditional media that works in conjunction with digital media and marketing solutions to connect businesses with more local customers.”

For Torres, the move seemed like a natural step in her career. However, women jumping into tech startups is rare - and even more so with Hispanic women. “I was searching for the next evolution of my career and after attending so many leadership and business luncheons and listening to the stories of other women took a chance and went beyond their comfort zones.I finally felt empowered to join this new world of business - where every day, we get to make something happen for our clients," she said.

Torres believes traditional media plays a role in a company’s media strategy explaining, “I have always believed in a strong media mix. But today's business owners need a new playbook to develop a media strategy to connect with local consumers. Everyone, not just millennials, is a moving target. Our company understands how to make that connection - and we do it well.”
