In June, we gave you a heads up about Antiwarpt, the Warped Tour alternative, on our sister site, 727area.com (could we have fit any more links just now?). The event, which takes place on Saturday, July 28 in Downtown St. Pete, will feature artists from all over Florida playing at several venues, a la the multi-stage Warped Tour set-up.

Maybe you've heard of a few of these 99 bands, as some already have a strong local following, but for those in the dark, we decided to give you a preview of a handful of the Tampa Bay area bands you can see there.

set and setting

set and setting is a St. Petersburg-based band made up of members Shane Handal (guitar), Mark Etherington (drums), Stephen Handal (drums and synthesizer), and John Allen Kreft (bass).

Describing their music is difficult, says Shane Handal, who has jokingly called it "post-classical", just to give it a name. "We are an all instrumental band, with long, droning songs. There are dark and heavy tones, as well as uplifting and lighter ones. Throw some key terms such as "ambient", "psychedelic", and "post-rock" in there and that's about the best we can do."

This is set and setting's second year at Antiwarpt. "Last year was a lot of fun. Aside from playing an awesome show, hanging out all day at a music festival is hard to beat. There were a ton of friends, drinks, and  good bands playing all day."

This time around at Antiwarpt, the band is looking forward to seeing how the event has grown. "Being a part of a continuously building project is really exciting. It grows every year and I am really looking forward to seeing the progression that was made and will be made this year," says Handal.

When asked if there is anything set and setting wants Antiwarpt attendees to know about the band, Handal's response is brief, but fitting: "Bring earplugs."

To keep in touch with set and setting's goings-on and listen to their music, check out the set and setting Facebook page and the BandCamp set and setting page. You can also follow set and setting on Twitter and Instagram (@setandsetting), and the set and setting Tumblr.

Now that you and set and setting are besties, give their songs a listen and be sure to check them out at Antiwarpt on July 28 in Downtown St. Pete.
