In June, we gave you a heads up about Antiwarpt, the Warped Tour alternative, on our sister site, 727area.com (could we have fit any more links just now?). The event, which takes place on Saturday, July 28 in Downtown St. Pete, will feature artists from all over Florida playing at several venues, a la the multi-stage Warped Tour set-up.

Maybe you've heard of a few of these 99 bands, as some already have a strong local following, but for those in the dark, we decided to give you a preview of a handful of the Tampa Bay area bands you can see there.

Sleepy Vikings

Tampa-based Sleepy Vikings is made up of members Tessa Mckenna (vocals), Julian Conner (guitar and vocals), Ryann Slauson (drums), Sandi Streppone (bass), and Jensen Kistler (guitar).

Kistler describes their music as a "weird combination" of indie, shoegaze, and country. For those who aren't familiar with shoegaze, it's best described as the dreamlike sound from the use of effect pedals, sometimes accompanied by a detached or introverted performance style.

"We are super excited to play in St. Pete for this awesome festival," says Kistler. Though it is the band's first time playing the concert, their talent has taken them far. They have made the rounds in Tampa and St. Pete, playing venues like New World Brewery often, and throughout the United States. They've also been reviewed in popular magazines, such as Paste, and are signed with New Granada Records, with an album available on iTunes.

Beyond the excitement of playing the concert, Sleepy Vikings is looking forward to seeing the Mountain Goats play. "Conner and Tessa missed them earlier this year at Crowbar, so this time it's gonna be great." Of course, it's also the little things that make us happy, and for Sleepy Vikings, some yummy food at Taco Bus St. Pete is also exciting.

When asked if there is anything Sleepy Vikings wants Antiwarpt attendees to know about the band, Kistler says, "Antiwarpt is our last show with our drummer Ryann who's moving up to White Plains, NY to go to graduate school. So come out and see us! Also, we play an awesome Danzig cover. Just sayin'." Just sayin', seriously, go check them out.
