Another wild summer week in Orlando sports and sports in general! No letting off the gas...

Except if you're Dale Earnhardt Jr., anyway, who's wife Amy isn't too keen on him racing Daytona next year.

She said on Twitter, "It's a simple answer for me. It's not worth the risk of his health."

Dale Jr.'s reportedly had three concussions since 2012 and admitted to having balance issues this year.

He also said he was 'scared to death' after experiencing some blurry vision earlier this year.

Despite those serious health concerns, many of his fans want him to race in Daytona anyway... and aren't fond of Amy's take.

One wrote,

"It is utter bulls--t that you dictate what he does. No wonder he never married if this is what he gets. Let him race. Stop ruling him!!

 Another wrote,

"People want DALE to decide. Not some chick that took over his life!"

But some had some decency. One said,

"I totally get why you don't want to see Jr get hurt again. Thank you, Amy!!"

I will say... If Dale Jr. chooses NOT to race at Daytona in 2018 (he has said he'll retire from racing full-time next year and join the NBC broadcast booth), it will be a very sad day for NASCAR.

If you've ever been at Daytona when he's at the front of the pack, you've experienced the thrill.

The racing world is simply worse off without the affable Dale Jr. behind the wheel.

But I 100% back his and his wife's decision to choose health over racing.

Speaking of NBC, the future home of Earnhardt, Jr. where he'll broadcast the races...

Faris Xero, 28, of Orlando is the only local athlete remaining on the NBC hit show, American Ninja Warrior.

He'll be featured on the Daytona Beach City Finals episode, Monday, August 7th at 8pm.

Xero joined me for a chat about his experience and how he hopes American Ninja Warrior can ultimately turn into an Olympic event.

Keeping on the topic of television, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the featured NFL franchise on the HBO show Hard Knocks, Tuesday, August 8th.

I think Hard Knocks has certainly lost its luster over the years, but an inside look into the dynamics of the Tampa Bay franchise could be interesting for local fans.

Quarterback Jameis Winston says, "We're out there for the fans, we're out there for the city. Hard Knocks is there to show the whole world."

When Winston's former college team, FSU, kicks off the regular season one month from today... they'll have a homegrown player starting in the backfield.

Jacques Patrick of Timber Creek High School gets the start at running back in place of Dalvin Cook, who departed in April for the NFL.

Patrick, 6'2", 235 lbs., has rushed 124 times for 662 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and 9 touchdowns.

I always love to see local players making it to the big stage.

Florida State opens the regular season on Saturday, September 2, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta against powerhouse Alabama. It's an 8pm kickoff on ABC.

And former Dr. Phillips basketball star Shane Larkin, the son of the Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer Barry Larkin, has signed a contract with the Boston Celtics.

Larkin was the 18th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and has averaged 5.8 points and 3.2 assists in his time with the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks.
