Cast and Reel is gearing up to be a top weekend event in Tampa! Kicking off Thursday, October 5th with the Captain's Dinner hosted by Rock Brothers Brewing at the Attic and a fun fishing tournament at Hula Bay on Friday, October 6th the Cast and Reel fun will include raffles, prizes, a silent auction, giveaways and much more.

Tyler Martinolich, Vice President of Operations for Film Tampa Bay explains what the event is about:

Cast and Reel, Film Tampa Bay’s Inaugural Saltwater Premiere, celebrates all that Tampa Bay has to offer as a top filming location while also providing a significant networking opportunity for a multitude of elite corporate sponsors. The event is designed to be the Bay area’s most exclusive and fun fishing tournament. Set to generate monies for the Tampa Hillsborough Film and Digital Media Commission through vessel sales, corporate sponsorships, and merchandising the proceeds from this event will go toward the operating budget of Film Tampa Bay. It is Film Tampa Bay's goal to generate a pool of discretionary funds outside of local funding provided by Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa. These funds will be used for projects and initiatives including but not limited to: Student scholarships, artistic and merit based grants for local filmmakers, workforce development, and the creation of a separate fund to incentivize smaller productions that do not meet current incentive criteria.

Film Tampa Bay, part of Visit Tampa Bay, the region's tourism bureau, hopes to promote the value of the Bay area as a filming location as well as a vacation destination. The proceeds from Cast and Reel will help Film Tampa Bay and the Tampa Hillsborough Film & Digital Media Commission generate funds for initiatives like scholarships, grants, and workforce development.

Dale Gordon, head of Film Tampa Bay, and her team are understandably excited about Cast and Reel and the opportunity to support many worthwhile film-related projects and artists in our area. The application process for a Film Tampa Bay grant will be similar to a Hillsborough County Artists Grant, but the judging panel will have more opportunity to examine the merit of each proposal, with awarded monies ranging from $500 to $5,000, depending on the parameters of the project.

The Captain's Dinner on Thursday evening promises to be a stellar networking event featuring a multitude of Tampa Bay VIPs. Rock Brothers Brewing and the Attic in historic Ybor City, are on the corner of 8th Avenue and 15th Street. This recently renovated brewery won a national award at the United States Beer Tasting Championship and has plans to launch more brews soon.

The Captain's Dinner starts at 5:30 pm Thursday, and check-in for the fishing tournament opens at 7:30 am Friday morning - so don't be late!

Cast and Reel's generous sponsors include Hillsborough Community College, Pepin, Port Tampa Bay, Ybor's own Blind Tiger Cafe, Diamond View, and the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation.

There are still sponsorship opportunities available, starting at just $1,500 for a party of two.
