Celebrate the life and legacy of one of the greatest humanitarians the world has ever known this weekend at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and other MLK events in Tampa.

MLK Old School/New School Step Show and Stroll

The MLK Old School/New School Step Show and Stroll celebrates the history of “stepping” and showcases the new methods to this art, too. If you're curious about stepping and what it is, you’re not alone. Stepping is an important part of America’s artistic and cultural heritage in which the body is used as an instrument to create intricate movements with a combination of sounds and claps.

This MLK event in Tampa highlights multiple sororities and fraternities from the “Divine Nine National Panhellenic Council Greeks.” First place will receive $1,000, and second place will receive $750. Tickets are still available online for this event being held on Friday, January 18 starting at 7 p.m. for $15 per person plus a service fee of $2.24.

MLK Bounce Rock Skate Roll

The University of South Florida brings you the MLK Bounce Rock Skate Roll 5K Run/Walk. This event is being held to raise awareness and proceeds will benefit Sickle Cell Disease. The event will start on Saturday, January 19 at 8 a.m. Admission for the event costs $25 for adults and $15 for youth. All tickets include a race t-shirt!

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands will come crashing in on Sunday, January 20 at 4 p.m. The battle will commence between Albany State University Marching Golden Rams and Edward Waters College Triple Threat Marching Band. There will also be high school and middle school marching bands, community drumlines, and dance teams performing at this event. Tickets for this event are $15 per person plus a service fee of $2.24.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade

The 30th Annual City of Tampa Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade will kick off on Monday, January 21. The parade will start at 12 p.m. at Cuscaden Park in Ybor City with plenty of floats, bands, cars, trucks, and walking paraders. This parade also helps benefit the many businesses, social, and community groups that strengthen the community by recognizing all of these valuable groups.

All these Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. events in Tampa are family-friendly and held outdoors, so bring some sunscreen plus towels, chairs, and cash because food vendors at the parade and 5K will most likely operate on a cash-basis.
