This may be no Flugtag, but Red Bull is returning to the Tampa Bay area for two days of summertime wakeboarding fun for the Red Bull Wake Open, an international wakeboarding competition going down on Friday and Saturday, July 13-14 in Downtown Tampa.

The two day competition will bring in hundreds of wakeboarders, an expected 14,000 attendees, and an estimated $1 million into the local economy.

The Red Bull Wake Open is divided into three categories - cable, big air and boatwater - that many riders, including Polk County's own Shane Bonifay, will compete in for the grand prize of $50,000. The course for the Wake Open will be located right outside of the Tampa Convention Center on Garrison Channel.  This is the same location where Redbull held their famous Flugtag competition back in 2008 and 2011.

The Red Bull Wake Open is open to the public and completely free to attend.  Although wakeboarding competitions haven't accomplished massive popularity, NBC is vying to change this when they air a live, two-hour special from the Wake Open on Saturday, July 14.

This is all part of Red Bull's Signature Series, a series of "progressive and innovative wakeboarding, surfing, mountain biking, freestyle motocross and snowboarding events showcased on custom courses from the inspiration of the athletes themselves."

So, if you're looking for some fun and free good times this summer in Tampa, mark it down on your calendar and check out the Red Bull Wake Open on Friday and Saturday, July 13-14.
