While the prospect of the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa squaring off in any major sport is probably pretty unlikely for the near future, that doesn't mean that both of these Tampa colleges can't compete in another area.

That's where Red Carpet Rivals comes in.  This one of a kind film competition will pit student filmmakers from USF and UT against each other in a short film competition going down this Friday, March 30 at the Muvico Centro Ybor 20.  It is the first ever collegiate competition to be part of the Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF).

Students from each school had to produce a four minute short film with the common theme being “welcome to my world…UT/USF.”  A panel of three judges will voice their opinions on each film, but YOU the audience gets to decide the final winner.

If you go to either of these schools, head out and show your support. Red Carpet Rivals kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with FREE admission, popcorn, and Red Bull for college students (with college ID, of course).

After the competition there will be a special screening of The Halo Effect which follows three of the world’s best kayakers as they paddle Scandinavia, Iceland, and Norway’s arctic rapids.  Check out the trailer below to see what it's all about.
