Sir Paul McCartney to Rock Out Amalie Arena on July 10th!

Published By Christen Hailey on 02 May 2017

Sir Paul McCartney, former Beatle, a living legend, and an international treasure, will perform in Tampa at the Amalie Arena in Channelside on Monday, July 10th.

This is the first Bay area appearance for McCartney in over a decade, having last played here back in 2005. A lot has changed since then, but the almost 75-year-old McCartney is known for rolling with the punches and coming out on top. His concert performances consistently get great reviews from people of all ages - his 2016 show in Grand Rapids, Michigan was touted as a "near-transcendent performance that inspires wonder, hyperbole, and fits of elation." Sir Paul is known for playing a massive number of songs at his shows, ranging from Beatles faves to pyrotastic renditions of "Live and Let Die" to some of his weirder early 80's electro-pop.

As everyone on Earth knows, McCartney first came to fame as a member of the Beatles in the early 60's, when those mop-headed Brits became rock gods. After the breakup of the band in 1970, McCartney went his own way first as a solo artist, releasing the album McCartney, which held the number one slot in the U.S. for over three weeks. Sir Paul then formed the group Wings in 1971, with his wife, Linda, ex-Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine, and drummer Denny Seiwell, and went on to release several platinum LPs. Since then, McCartney has continued to wow fans with a huge variety of amazing projects, collaborations, and performances.

Sir Paul also took a command role in organizing the Concert for New York City in the wake of the September 11th tragedy, having witnessed the attack from the window of a plane at JFK airport. McCartney was able to put together the charity benefit for the city in only six weeks. The event featured stellar performances by The Who, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Elton John, and much more. The Love We Make is a very entertaining documentary film by Albert Maysles about McCartney's experiences in New York after the terrorist attack, the planning of the Concert for New York City, and the backstage shenanigans with the other participants. A must see!
