Ahoy ye landlubbers! Gasparilla 2020 is almost here and it’s time to batten down the hatches. Allow 813area to be your map that will guide you to the perfect “X” this time for the biggest celebration of the year. We all know the expense of Uber or Lyft'ing to the parade, much less the hassle of driving. But what if there was an easier way to get there...
Aye, me hearties, there is! Here's a list of some bus alternatives to get to Gasparilla and enjoy the festivities without having to worry about driving.
The guys that throw some of the best bar crawls in The Bay, Downtown Crawlers, are back at it for Gasparilla with their Gasparilla Barrr Crawl, which comes with bus transportation all over the parade area! It starts at District Tavern and heads to The Patio & Franklin Manor before making it towards the parade. Tickets are $40-$60, and include brunch (if applicable ticket is purchased) and drink specials at various bars on the route.
For USF students, it's always a struggle to get to Bayshore Blvd on Gasparilla. If you fancy an adventure then set course for Tampa Bay and head to the celebration this way. This year, the HART bus system has special routes that will get you to Downtown rather quickly. They will have express routes to help reduce the traffic near and around the parade.
Another option that will keep you out of traffic for the most part will be taking an Uber or Lyft to Ybor City, jumping on the TECO Streetcar and taking it towards the parade, for free! This way, you will avoid traffic in or near Downtown, keeping your Uber or Lyft rates low and your pockets happy.
If you want to rent a party bus, that's another option, but it's not as cost effective, if you're trying to save money after the holidays. Some of the prices at L3 Limos are as follows.
Mercedes Sprinter - Up to 13 riders, $250 each way
Ford Mini Bus - Up to 18 riders, $300 each way
Hummer H2 - Up to 20 riders, $300 each way
GMC Bus- Up to 38 riders, $450 each way
GMC White Bus - Up to 40 riders, $450 each way
Big Bus - Up to 42 riders, $550 each way
White Bus - Up to 45 riders, $550 each way
Remember The Invasion begins around 11:30 a.m. up the harbor, and the grand parade begins at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard at 2:00 p.m., continuing all along Bayshore Boulevard through North Ashley Drive and Cass Street, wrapping up about 5:30 p.m.
