Whether you are local or just visiting, summer is the perfect time to enjoy the best places to run in Tampa Bay. From beaches and trails to paved roads, there are endless opportunities to get active outdoors. Choosing the right place to run, however, depends on your personal fitness goal. If you are looking for a great distance spot or just a serene setting, you are sure to find the right path to fit your cardiovascular needs in Tampa. Here are just a few of our favorite spots for sprinting (or jogging):

Bayshore Blvd

One of Tampa’s best selling points is the longest continuous sidewalk in the world! Ten feet wide and four and a half miles long, this Tampa treasure is known for its beauty, proximity to swanky eateries and of course, its annual pirate invasion. Beware of how busy this area can be especially in the summer months. Tampa locals love to flock to this Boulevard for all exercise including running, walking, rollerblading and bicycling. The view is spectacular at any time of day, although it is most popular in the early morning.

UTBT (Upper Tampa Bay Trail)

Seven and a quarter miles of paved road from Memorial Highway to Peterson Road Park open to bikers, hikers, skaters and horses. This scenic stretch is an ideal location for running since the trail is scattered with water boxes, the terrain is varied and there is no entrance fee. The city has planned to extend this trail an additional seven to eight miles so training for your next marathon or triathlon will be a breeze.

Clearwater Beach

Not far from the heart of Tampa is a destination no runner should miss. Pier 60 is a great place to socialize or start your run. The sand is powdery, the air is crisp and the water will keep your feet cool as you cruise the coastline. If you are famished when you’re finished, Clearwater Beach has an array of restaurants to help refuel your muscles.

Dead River Trail

Nature lovers rejoice! A ten-mile round trip romp through the Hillsborough River State Park made for beginners. The park itself is well equipped with a swimming pool, bike rental facility and historic guided tours. Partly paved and unpaved trails snake around the luscious woods in a way that lets you customize your route. Speaking of snakes…beware of critters and creepy crawlers on this trail while running.

Alderman’s Ford Park

Roughly five miles of conservation land make for a great quick trip. The park is open all year during daylight hours with relatively few amenities. This is the best place for a no muss, no fuss run through one of Tampa Bay’s preserved pieces of land. Pets must be on leashes and the park volunteers insist that people don’t leave an imprint. Those lucky enough to tread this trail regularly appreciate the park for its pristine, untouched quality.
