Dementia Redefined is inviting the residents of Tampa Bay and surrounding areas to join in a movement to redefine the way we approach dementia care by participating in a Family FUNday. This event will take place on February 10th at the Alafia River State Park in Lithia.
Participants will enjoy a family oriented event in a picnic atmosphere with face painting, balloon figures, a photo booth, food carts and mountain biking! Tickets and pre-registration are available now at dementiaredefined.com/mountain-bike-family-fundraiser/.
Together we will help build awareness of what it means to live life well (with dementia) one bike ride at a time! At a special ceremony we will honor those impacted with dementia, recognize the highest donors and award the top racers.
Worldwide, there are now an estimated 24 million people living with some form of dementia. There are several forms of dementia all impacting a person’s memory, orientation and motor functions. Alzheimer’s is the most common and most well-known of the memory loss diseases. There are an estimated 22,499 individuals effected with Alzheimer’s right here in Tampa Bay and more than 507,808 in Florida. Dementia comes with a great deal of negative stigma as society tends to focus on the challenges and inability to control the progression of the disease. Commonly, family members express the feelings of loneliness and the inability of others to relate. Dementia Redefined believes we can do better for our family and friends.
The money raised at this event will allow us to offer those with dementia, families and their support teams with guidance, education and community awareness programs. Those who may not otherwise have been able to afford support, will have access to services where the feelings of isolation and the overall burden of caregiving is minimized.
