A new Downtown Tampa attraction could be ready to use sooner than most expected.  The newest section of the Downtown Tampa Riverwalk, which will link MacDill Park with the former Trump Tower site just south of the CapTrust building, is expected to be finished by late July or early August - just in time for the Republican National Convention - according to city officials.

This puts the overall project ahead of its planned schedule.  Just exactly how far ahead is still indeterminable, but officials say they're "well ahead" of the original projected finish date of February 13, 2013.  When all is said and done, the complete path will extend from Tampa Heights all the way to the Channelside District.

Running alongside the Hillsborough River, the Tampa Riverwalk will be an ideal place for Tampa residents and visitors alike to explore the heart of our city while visiting all the local businesses that make the area what it is.

The Riverwalk also touts a special cell phone audio tour which allows visitors  to gain historical information and up to date news on establishments along the Riverwalk by way of their cell phones.  All you have to do is call (813) 319-8441 at any of the (so far) seven different stops along the Riverwalk.  Each stop provides information on three to eight different points of interest along the Riverwalk.

The next section of the Tampa Riverwalk will run along the river beneath Kennedy Boulevard to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

The only catch?  The section still remains unfunded.

The city is currently seeking a grant from the Federal Department of Transportation for funing.  We'll keep you posted as more news arises.
