The historic Tampa Theatre has decided, or perhaps, been forced to adapt to the current state of film technology with the installation of a new, digital projection system unveiled on Tuesday, according to My Fox Tampa Bay.

As film technology progresses, many modern movie productions are opting for digital film methods over the traditional use of physical film used for hundreds of years.

The Tampa Theatre, as a result, was forced to go digital if they wanted to showcase modern and upcoming movies from the same Downtown Tampa location they've occupied since 1926.  It wasn't cheap, either.  Fundraising efforts began back in September of 2012 before the historic theatre eventually raised $90,000 and took on approximately $60,000 worth of debt to purchase the digital projection system.  To keep up with the times, though, this seems like a necessary price to pay.

With the simple push of a "play" button, the theatre projectionist can now pump crisp, HD-quality film from the hard drive straight into the theatre.  Add a new digital sound system and now you've got all the trappings of the modern, movie-going experience.
