It was the end of the July 4th Holiday Weekend and the time was finally right for this South Tampa gal to make it to Seminole Heights.  I was craving BBQ and my tour guide had the perfect first stop, Soulfood Sundays at Ella's American Folk Art Cafe.

We had a bit of a wait and unfortunately it was too late for one of their famed Bloody Mary's so we grabbed a glass of wine, checked out the unique art on display and soaked up the hipster vibe.  We were seated upstairs and soon it was BBQ time! I ordered the Ribs with a side of Smoked Corn on the Cob and my guide ordered the Brisket and Pork with a side of Collard Greens. We did a little sharing and both meals were beyond excellent! Next time we'll come a little earlier so we can also enjoy the band that plays until 7pm.

The night was young so we headed to the Mermaid Tavern.  I didn't make it to the beach over the 4th but the Mermaid Tavern helped me feel like I was there, with a bit of a hipster twist.  We were beyond full so food wasn't an option but the menu looks outstanding so I'll definitely be back for the Truffle Fries, Smoked Mullet Spread, Fla Bay Scallop-Bacon Rangoon, Fresh Fla Snapper Tacos and the Kefta Burger! The crowd was very diverse ranging from diners enjoying their meals, groups of drinkers, solo laptop gurus, and couples enjoying a quiet drink. Great service and a fun atmosphere, I'll be back!

It was getting late but time for one more stop at the Red Star Rock Bar. I have to say, I was in love at first sight! The decor is just my style with red curtains, leopard-print booths and bar stools, cool art and rock memorabilia tastefully decorating the walls, very clean and comfortable with a fantastic outdoor patio.  They have a jukebox you can control with your phone when they don't have DJ's, live music, karoake or other special events going on.  They don't serve food but don't worry, there's food trucks in the lot next door. Beer and wine on tap, a full selection of cocktails, and a cool chic vibe. Watch out Lyft, I'm gonna  be back, a lot!

Time for the night to end but not before a quick stop at Mauricio Faedo's Bakery for a loaf of cuban bread! The perfect Tampa nightcap.

Many thanks to my guide for showing me some of the delightful spots in Seminole Heights. You've turned this South Tampa gal into a Seminole Heights fan!
