Seminole Heights' Red Star Rock Bar gained approval to sell liquor, beer, and wine from the city back in October 2012, but that was only the beginning of months of negotiations to finally gain the approval they needed to open their doors to the public.

If you've driven by, you might recognize the bar by the huge red and black, rock-themed mural sitting on the side of their location at 5210 N Florida Ave.  Since October, the bar's Facebook page has been riddled with questions from neighborhood residents and visitors like wondering when they'll open and now, they've hit the ground running with an opening date now expected for early September.

Red Star Rock Bar will share the strip that The Refinery, Cappy’s Pizza, and The Independent are currently housed in.  The bar will feature a cool interior designed by local artist as well as the art work of a variety of rock stars and a rock theme throughout.  Their drink selection will feature 9 beers on tap including domestic and imported selections as well as liquor drinks, wine, and more.

Many of the negotiations with the city were over the vacant lot next to the bar.

Red Star recently gained ownership over the 42,000 square foot lot. They plan to use it for parking as well as events ranging from daytime concerts to classic car shows, art shows, British-style croquet tournaments and more according to their Facebook page.
