A new bar and restaurant The Outpost has opened at the former location of Frankie's Hot Dogs at 909 W. Kennedy Blvd. in South Tampa.

This new tap house and tavern features a consciously rustic sports bar atmosphere marked by decor like Chicago-grown, 100-year-old barn wood and 15 flat-screen TV’s centered around a diverse assortment of 40 beers on tap and over 50 in cans with not a bottle in sight.

The Outpost's can-only policy is part of a new craft beer renaissance in the U.S. with a growing number of craft breweries (including Tampa's Cigar City Brewing) opting for airtight, oxygen-free, and light-blocking cans over traditional, more easy-to-spoil bottles.

Draft selections at The Outpost include brews from local breweries including Cold Storage and Cigar City Brewing as well as a number of traditional staples from leading U.S. craft breweries like Southern Tier, Lagunitas, Sweetwater, Stone and more.

Of course, if you like the big-name beers, The Outpost has you covered with selections like Bud Light, PBR, Yuengling, and the "Champagne of Beers" Miller High Life served as classy as possible in huge 32-ounce bottles.

In addition to all these delicious libations, The Outpost also serves up a tried-and-true assortment of bar favorites for lunch and dinner including wings, burgers, and fries as well as more contemporary, healthy selections like salads, wraps and more.
