The Sarasota Polo Club at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club brings one of the world's oldest, most prestigious games to Florida's Gulf Coast. Since beginning in 1991, the polo club has given people many different ways to enjoy the game.

Polo is a team sport where riders play on horseback, and the objective is to hit a small, air-filled ball through a goal using a wooden mallet. The origins of the game are disputed, but it's said to have been developed anywhere from 6th century BC to 1st century AD.

The Sarasota Polo Club was the first development in Lakewood Ranch, and the entire community grew around it. Now, this history comes alive with great competition on the 130 acres that make up the country club.

There are polo leagues and tournaments at the Sarasota Polo Club take place all throughout the winter on seven world-class polo fields and a regulation-size polo arena. Polo season at the club is comprised of matches running every Sunday from January to April.

A lively tailgating scene and families setting up along the side of the field with their picnic basket creates a lively backdrop for matches. The Sarasota Polo Club also has Clydesdale wagon rides, half-time entertainment, and divot stomping during contests.

Admission to matches is $12 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The club offers reserved season tailgating passes as well that include eight tickets for every match for $1,500.

Those who wish to participate in regularly-scheduled social events and have ample opportunity to get out on the polo field should check out the variety of membership packages offered by the Sarasota Polo Club. They range in price from $2,000 to $6,900, allowing members ample practice time and facility use.

The Sarasota Polo Club also actively tries to engage new participants in the sports with polo lessons, riding lessons, and a ten-week polo school course. The polo club is just one of many reasons why Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club is a great place to live and the third best-selling community in the country.
