The Sarasota real estate market is a popular one with people drawn to world-class beaches and a burgeoning cultural scene. It's a city that many choose to buy second or third homes in to use for vacation.

If you're looking to put down roots in town, there are several different areas to consider. Discover them all in our guide to Sarasota's real estate by neighborhood.

Downtown

Downtown has an interesting mix of newer and older housing available. There are low and high-rise condos that surround the city's arterial streets like Bayfront, Central, and Main.

There are also older homes in the quaint neighborhoods like Laurel Park that surround Downtown. Towles Court is an artsy area with art studios, boutiques, and small cafes surrounded by brightly-colored bungalows.

Lido Key

Lido Key is directly across from Downtown, and there is property here that suits everyone's needs. Smaller mansions and modest homes in the area surround the central dining, shopping, and nightlife hub, St. Armands Circle

Lido Key's public beach on the west shore is lined with condos available for purchase. This is a great neighborhood for those who enjoy carefree water activities like kayaking, shelling, and fishing.

Bird Key

Bird Key is nestled in between Lido Key and Sarasota's waterfront. The island was originally dredged in 1960 and now features some of the most expensive real estate in the region.

This is where people go when they are seeking expansive waterfront mansions. There are also empty lots available for building in Bird Key where older homes have been torn down to make way for new development.

Longboat Key

Longboat Key is another exclusive area, and 80% of the residents are here part-time. There are great options for golf, tennis, and boating around the resorts and condos that dot the shoreline.

There are also less-populated beaches on Longboat Key and top-rated restaurants, and the deepwater docks in this bayside neighborhood provide excellent access to Sarasota Bay.

Siesta Key

Siesta Key is one of the more popular Sarasota neighborhoods to settle in as there are single-family beach and canal-front homes along the north end of the island.

Condos are available along Crescent Beach, near Siesta Key Village, and on the south end of the key at Turtle Beach. There are also some estate properties and gated communities near Siesta Key's southern tip.

Casey Key

The rich and famous like author Stephen King and legendary tennis player Matina Navratilova have homes on Casey Key. There is a single road that goes through the island, and it is connected to mainland Sarasota by a one-lane steel swing bridge.

There are grand estate homes on Casey Key that stretch their property lines from Gulf to Bay and a few beach cottages dispersed throughout this oasis for the wealthy as well.

Osprey

Our final neighborhood to check out is back on the mainland. Osprey was the first high-end golf course community located in South County, and it has stood the test of time to still rank as one of the region's best.

In addition to top-notch golf, The Oaks Club also offers upscale living and deepwater boating. Osprey is also home to Historic Spanish Point, a 30-acre historic park that features a prehistoric shell mound, a pioneer homestead museum, and nature trails.
