Are you asking yourself, didn't I celebrate the auspicious and delicious doughnut this past summer? The answer is Yes, Yes you did.! National Doughnut Day is so good, they are doing it again! It's like winning the lottery, but twice, and with doughnuts!
Dying to know why?
Summer's National Doughnut Day began in 1938 to honor the 'Dough Lassies', female Salvation Army volunteers who made donuts for soldiers and shipped them overseas. Their extremely popular campaign was so loved by our men in arms they coined the slogan, 'Donuts will with the war!"
So why this second day to celebrate? Best guess is it was created by a man named John Hopkins, not the hospital founder, but a foodie with a blog. He created many of our National Food Holidays, so we are guessing he REALLY likes doughnuts!
