Meatless Monday: Tampa Bay Veg Fest

From the animal-friendly beauty company, Lush, to vegan soft serve in a food truck, the 6th annual Tampa Bay Veg Fest was a success last Saturday. In the Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park, right on Tampa's Riverwalk, a flurry of tents and vendors offered free samples, coupons and flyers, in the unfamiliar November heat. In the food court, raw tacos, vegan truffle mac n' cheese and gluten free cakes, all provided not only an animal-friendly meal, but also something for anyone with allergies.

The event, put on by Florida Voices for Animals, had cooking demos, a kids zone, local cuisine and adoption agencies. The pet-friendly fest, or rather feast, was aimed at all people, not particularly just herbivores. Vegan outreach and animal rights advocacy groups were present as well, but amidst the setting or just the good food, their message was a friendly reminder as to why the festival was happening in the first place: the animals.

From the live bands, fixed right by the food court, to the sampling galore, the Tampa Bay Veg Fest turned out to be a one-of-a-kind event that Tampa will hopefully see more of.
