While many might associate Davis Islands with everything high-end in regards to dining and nightlife, there are some places in this distinguished Downtown Tampa neighborhood where you can grab a good bite to eat on the cheap.
Estela's is a quaint Davis Islands Mexican restaurant and definitely falls into this category. Serving up both a traditional and contemporary variety of classic Mexican cuisine, Estela's is a great place to relax with a drink or a simple plate of Mexican food on Davis Islands.
High end? Not really. Creative? Maybe a tad. Delicious? Absolutely. Estela's kicks off every meal with the prototypical Mexican restaurant standard of unlimited chips and salsa. Each are prepared fresh right there on premise and come plentiful and tasty enough to deceptively fill up anyone with no self control before the main course.
For lunch, Estela's offers over 15 different lunch specials with most items hovering under the $9 mark. These include typical Mexican restaurant fare like fajitas, burritos, taco salads, quesadillas, and the like.
Estela's nachos come piled high with ground beef, chopped chicken, refried beans, tomatoes, sour cream, and lettuce, lots of lettuce. The chicken is the star of the show, shredded into lean, tender hunks and dusted with Mexican spices. In fact, all the elements blend together pretty tastily. Aside from the bounty of lettuce, I just wish they would've included more nachos for scooping up all the good stuff. Overall, a decent plate of nachos worth trying.
