Here in the Tampa Bay area, we're in prime territory for some of the best Cuban sandwiches in the country.  From hole-in-the-wall Ybor restaurants like Brocato's to town staples like La Teresita, a great Cuban sandwich is never too far away in the Tampa Bay area.

But, a rural stretch of Highway 301 in the Riverview-SouthShore area wasn't too high on our list of places you'd be likely to find a great Cuban sandwich in Tampa Bay.

Enter Silver Ring Cafe, an unassuming, no-frills cafe housed inside a Riverview shopping center that looks like it hasn't changed a bit since like, 1976.

Inside Silver Ring, you'll find an old, almost office-like interior tinged with the waft of roasting pork and pressed Cuban bread emanating from the kitchen.

You pick what you want from two small Coke-brand menu boards seemingly ripped from the walls of little league concession stand with the bare-bones Cuban essentials including the namesake sandwich in three sizes, roast pork, black beans, yellow rice, devil crab and more.

They ask if you want it pressed like there's any other way to truly enjoy a Cuban and soon enough, you're graced with a hulking monster of a sandwich that's a little iffy on the meat (square ham, anyone?), but altogether enjoyable when slathered with enough of a mayo/mustard combo; topped swiss, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce; and crammed between two fresh, crunchy sliced of warm Cuban bread.

Overall, color us surprised with Silver Ring Cafe.  If you're ever in Riverview-SouthShore, stop by and give them a try.  With no sandwich priced higher than $5.50, Silver Ring's a hell of a deal as well.  Let us know what you think with a rating and review on the Silver Ring Cafe 813area business listing.
