We’re in the height of the tourist season in Florida, and there are a ton of things to do this weekend.  But I would recommend going to see Kevin Knox. He’s not a performing artist.  It will only cost $10 to see him (and $10 for parking).   And he’s appearing 10 am Saturday in Lakeland, so it will take you around 45-60 minutes to get there from the Tampa Bay area.

Reasons to See Basketball Phenom Kevin Knox this Weekend in Tampa

Kevin Knox is the best high school basketball player to come out of Tampa in years.  He’s the leading scorer in Hillsborough County history.  And he’s playing his final prep basketball game of his career, when his Tampa Catholic Crusaders play for the 5A State Championship against Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Saturday morning, at the Lakeland Center

Is Kevin really that good?  Ask The Villages, who TC beat in the semi-final.  Kevin racked up 40 points and 20 rebounds and hit all 7 of his 3-pointers.

That’s why Kevin attracted college basketball royalty to that game, like North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams.  He hasn’t committed to a college basketball program yet.  In the final five are North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, and Florida State.  FSU may be in the mix because of his father, Kevin Knox, he played football for the Seminoles in the 1990’s.

Word is Kevin will wait until mid-April to make his decision, to see which players on these big-time teams are returning.  Smart move.  He wants playing time right away, and he’s definitely good enough.

So, go see Kevin Knox.  And it won’t take all of your Saturday.  High School basketball games only take about an hour and a half.
