The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2013 preseason opener against the reigning Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens will be blacked out on all local television tonight, a prospect probably unsurprising and all-too-familiar for fans throughout the area. This is due to the Bucs being unable to sell 85 percent of Raymond James Stadium's non-premium seats by the 72-hour deadline deadline set by the NFL last season. Now, the game won't be shown on any television within a 75 mile radius from the stadium; no cable, no satellite, no NFL Sunday ticket, nothing. Preseason tickets are a tough sell for any team, but as the Bucs have notoriously struggled to sell tickets over the past few years, this definitely doesn't signify the dawning of a new era - like some might have hoped - for the Bucs or their local popularity. If you're keeping track, 19 out of 23 home games have been blacked out on local television over the past three seasons, the Tampa Bay Times reports, with six home games like tonight's blacked out as well. The Bucs were the first team to accept the NFL's updated-but-still-pretty-counterproductive blackout rule last year, which allowed teams to declare a sellout and broadcast a game on television if 85 percent of all nonpremium seats were sold 72 hours before kickoff. As the NFL boasts record profits ($9.5 billion last season) and remains not only the most lucrative sports league in America, but the world, local Bucs fans still can't watch their hometown team from the comfort of their own homes. Tickets for tonight's game start at $30, though, so pay up, come out and support your Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
