Many have sat hoping and praying for professional basketball to come to Tampa.  With pro teams in both Miami and Orlando, it seemed like Tampa really got the short end of the stick when it came to a great NBA franchise.

While the American Basketball Association definitely isn't the basketball giant the NBA is, they've still set their sites on Tampa Bay for their newest expansion team, the Tampa Bay Rain.

Beginning in October, the Tampa Bay Rain will call the Florida Fairgrounds Expo Hall home when they face off with 15 games (30 games total) against ABA teams from across the U.S. and Canada.

The team, owned by National Sports and Entertainment Group, Inc., will square off against a number of other franchises in the Atlantic South Division including the Jacksonville Giants, the Atlanta Aliens, the Gulf Coast Flash, and the Orlando Kings.

The Tampa Bay Rain will offer a variety of ticket options.  Single game ticket prices will come at a price of $15,  $25, or $60 depending on location.  Season tickets, including VIP courtside seats, for the Tampa Bay Rain 2012-2013 season will run from $225 to $900.

The American Basketball Association is a historic basketball league dating back to 1967.  Basketball greats including Moses Malone, Julius Erving, and George Gervin all called the ABA home before it merged with the NBA in 1976.
