The best goody bags in running, scrumptious post-race treats and a one-hour concert by country music star Michael Ray are just three reasons Tampa’s active community will want to sign up for RAM Racing’s Hot Chocolate 15K/5K Series. The USATF-certified event hits Tampa for the first time ever. The race starts and finishes at Channelside Bay Plaza. Whether you’re a serious or recreational runner, you’ll score Hot Chocolate’s high-end race swag (a coveted zip-up hoodie jacket. After crossing the finish line, racers are rewarded with a mug loaded with fondue and hot chocolate, pretzels, Rice Krispie Treats, cookie straws and bananas. More than 4,000 pounds of melted chocolate are prepared for each race. There are even “sweet stations” on the course that provide delicious mid-race snacks.
The Hot Chocolate Race benefits the national Ronald McDonald House Charities with portions of the event’s contributions going to the local Tampa chapter of the non-profit. Last season the Hot Chocolate Series generated over $200,000 collectively for RMHC.
Tampa is the sixth stop on a tour that will visit 15 cities - one more than last year’s series when almost one quarter of a million people ran.
Registration for both distances is open until Thursday, December 15, 2016. Cost for the 5K is $54.00 while the extended distance fee is $79.00.
