Description
Join us for the dedication of a mural honoring the crew of the USCGC Tampa, a Coast Guard Cutter sunk while on patrol in Bristol Channel, September 26, 1918. The entire crew was lost, including 24 sailors from Tampa.
Event Details
The mural, funded by Hillsborough County Arts Commission, has been installed near the entrance to Tampa Bay History Center, located in Contanchobee Fort Brooke Park in downtown Tampa.
Speakers include History Center President and CEO C.J. Roberts, Chair of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, Sandra Murman, City of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, and representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard and the British Royal Navy.
Following the dedication, guests are invited to view an exhibit on the USS Tampa in the History Center’s TECO Learning Center, free of charge. An admission fee is required to view the History Center’s other exhibition galleries.
