We organize accessible science events in all of your favorite hangouts!
Join us for an evening of biology at The Attic featuring Dr. David Morgan and Dr. Simon Hayward! This evening's guest speakers lead productive and respected academic research careers studying Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Their presentations and discussions will allow us to learn about the history and current understanding of Alzheimer's disease and take a closer look at how chemicals and environmental toxins can impact human health.
Speakers include:
Prof. David Morgan: Preventing Alzheimer's by 2020
The presentation will provide the history of Alzheimer's disease, our present understanding of the causes of Alzheimer's and indicate how ongoing prevention trials will provide the tools to prevent Alzheimer's in the near future.
Dr. Simon Hayward: Bisphenol A, environmental toxin or harmless plasticizer? How do we know, how do we decide?
Science can provide a high level of clarity and sometimes, uncertainty. Data are used and misused to support many aspects of public policy. Sometimes scientific data are unclear and may be interpreted in different ways. The history of data accumulation on the potential environmental estrogen Bisphenol A provides a case study in the need to look critically at what we know and what we need to know before making decisions on the potential costs and benefits of specific commonly used chemicals.
