Event Details
We organize accessible science events in all of your favorite hangouts!
Join us with Dr. Lori Collins, Dr. Arturo Araujo, and John O'Meara for a lively evening of discussion centered on the evolving roles for libraries in the digital age, how mathematicians are adding their efforts to the fight against cancer, and the science of brewing beer at Fodder and Shine! There's a little bit of everything for everyone!
Speakers include:
Dr. Lori Collins: Libraries Transform - Using 3D to Create New Collections
The role of the library is changing, and this difference includes many new ways of exploring and learning. The Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections (DHHC) at the University of South Florida Libraries is transforming the way we consider libraries and librarians. Using the latest in 3D technologies, archaeologists are working in the library, sharing digital heritage sites and museum collections, and reshaping the way we use, contribute, archive, and make information accessible.
Dr. Arturo Araujo: Cancer, lies and videogames
I will tell you a story about unorthodox science, visionary researchers and the lies that help us see the truth. Working at the frontier of Mathematical Oncology, I will share an eyewitness account of the progress and the perils of this brave new science. I will confide in you some of the secret techniques of the dark art of computational modeling, how we wield them to untangle the mess that is metastatic prostate cancer, and what this means for the future of your healthcare. You should come.
