Description
Director Jordan Peele has spent the past few years developing into one of the most original, creative minds in genre film of his generation. And even with stratospheric expectations for his sophomore effort, Us is still surprising.
Event Details
1h 56m / R / Thriller
Where Get Out was an unpredictable and deeply personal allegory pretty much from the first scene, Us presents as a horror movie’s horror movie. Aesthetically on point, full of references (be on the lookout for Jaws, Friday the 13th,and A Nightmare on Elm Street) it’s at heart a movie where scary people do scary things — a classic home-invasion thriller in the vein of The Strangers or Funny Games. At first. By the end, it’s much, much more than that.
Us will take you as deep as you’re willing to go. Want to get jump-scared, and comic-relieved, and toss your popcorn in the air? Us delivers. Want to interrogate American history and the violence of class division? Us is here for that too. It’s full to bursting with hooks for fan theories and explainer YouTube videos. It’s subtler, but still just as willing as Get Out to get right up in the audience’s face: to what are you tethered? What wicked, hateful shadows do you call into being, merely by living the way you do? And what will you do when one day they crawl up out of the sewers to introduce themselves to you?
A Nightmare on Franklin Street 2019 is presented by Voodoo Ranger and J.J. Taylor Distributing Florida, Inc. Promotional consideration is provided by Spooky Empire.
